Venice Backyard championships photo

Denny Lennon, Owner/President, Lennon Sports is the Organizer of the Venice Backyard volleyball's Denny Lennon photoChampionships (VBC). The VBC is a unique volleyball tournament played within the confines of back yards and front yards on one block of Harding Avenue in Venice, California. Proceeds from this charity event go to support St. Mark Elementary School.

Players from 18 to 50, ranging in ability from professional to semi-novice, are placed in categories then paired together randomly the night before the tournament at the Official VBC Draw. The 2-player teams then battle the following morning in a single day, double-elimination format for the coveted VBC.

Each year a mid-day ceremony includes the performance of the national anthem and crowning of the tournament King and Queen. Many of the event organizers belong to the musical Lennon family. In the past, the "Lennon Sisters" as well as their younger brothers and cousins from the recording group "Venice" have given stirring renditions of the Star Spangled Banner.

In 1996, all the volleyball systems for the VBC were Cobras provided by Eberhard Sports and American Athletic, Inc.,with customized nets to fit the smaller playing areas of the yards.
