Every sport comes with its own set of rules that have to be followed throughout the game very religiously. Volleyball is no different.

No matter how well these rules are defined, when you’re new to a game, you’re bound to make a few mistakes. As a beginner volleyball player, you have to learn the ins and outs of volleyball to avoid making the most common mistakes most other players make, especially if you want to make it to the big leagues.

Tip: avoid volleyball net injuries by installing custom volleyball nets by Cobra Net Systems that have no guy wires or ropes and are easy and safe to install.

Here are a few mistakes you should avoid:

Multiple Touches

Multiple touches are not allowed. You can only use them during the first contact and when blocking. Other than that, make sure you don’t contact the ball twice or more.

Four Consecutive Hits

If your team hits the ball four or more times consecutively, it’s considered a rule violation. Try to make sure this doesn’t happen.

Prolonged Contact

When you’re catching or throwing the volleyball, you can’t let it rest. It should rebound from the contact.

Not Timing Properly

Avoid approaching the ball too quickly or earlier than you should. It will make it more difficult to have a successful attack, and you’ll end up finding it difficult to pass the ball to a team member.

Not Knowing Which Ball is Yours

Beginners tend to get confused when figuring out whether the fall falls at their courtside. This is mostly due to several factors like the sharp angle, loop, or speed of the ball. Just know that if the ball makes its way to your sixth of the court, it comes under your domain

Not Knowing When to Pass the Ball

Knowing how to get the volleyball up is important, but you also have to learn how and when to pass the ball to the right spot. When you’re passing the ball, it should neither be too high nor too low, and the timing should be perfect.

Contacting the Volleyball Net

If you’re jumping, avoid having your feed under the net. You could lose points but also end up straining your ankle. Plus, there are rules about contacting the net or playing the ball near your opponent’s side.

Make safety a priority by installing Cobra Net System’s safe volleyball nets with no hazardous guy wires, ropes, spikes, or ground plates.

Stepping Outside the Zone

When you’re serving the ball, make sure you’re not stepping outside the court line or the serving zone.
